Houston wins its seventh straight behind Harden’s near triple-double

After losing to Brooklyn in both meetings last year, the Rockets put their losses behind them and beat the Nets 122-118.

Houston was leading most of the way, thanks to a strong 29-point first quarter. The Rockets were up 10 at halftime and were leading by 15 at one point, but the Nets hung in there and claimed a lead with 2:20 left in the fourth quarter. Thankfully, the Rockets were able to edge out a win from six Eric Gordon points in the final two minutes and great defensive plays from Trevor Ariza and Patrick Beverley.

Memphis’ hottest new club is “Blowing Out the Warriors.”

Located on the corner of Beale Street and Wendigo Drive, the Grizzlies new hot spot blew up tonight! This place has everything - massive free throw advantages, terrible shooting performances from Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson, Tony Allen made threes, and Marc Gasol domination.

The Memphis Grizzlies led by as many as 30 (yes, 30) points tonight as Memphis beat the Golden State Warriors 110-89. It took a village to dominate the Warriors like the Grizzlies did tonight - Memphis had seven players score in double figures led by Marc Gasol with 19 points, 8 rebounds, and six assists, and JaMychal Green with 14 points and 10 rebounds.

The Spurs set multiple season highs in a drubbing of the Brooklyn Nets.

Over the last eight games, the Spurs have been the league’s worst scoring team in the first quarter. Apparently they got that message, because they started significantly better against the Nets, leading 20-17 while shooting 60% of their shots by the 5:15 mark. The hot shooting continued, and the result was a 41-26 lead at the end of the quarter, led by Kawhi Leonard’s 9 points and 4 rebounds.

What a win.

At halftime, the Atlanta Hawks looked to be dead in the water. The Milwaukee Bucks finished the second quarter with a flurry to claim a 64-44 lead at the break and, with the way that Atlanta has been playing in the recent past, there was little reason for optimism. However, the Hawks made a heroic comeback down the stretch on the road and, in the end, it was enough to steal a four-point victory by the final score of 114-110.

It's the second night of a back-to-back for both teams.

One night after squeaking by the Thunder in Oklahoma City, the Rockets return home to battle the cross-state rival Dallas Mavericks tonight in Houston. The Rockets could certainly have tired legs after the hard-fought match with the Thunder, but the Mavs are also on the second game of a back-to-back, so no excuses.

The Mavs responded after their bad loss against the Kings to look impressive against a good Pacers team.

Well that was surprising. Just a couple days ago the Kings beat the Mavericks so bad Rick Carlisle had to have his first post-game film session in 15 years as a head coach. The loss dropped the Mavs back to the worst record in the league.

So a Pacers team that beat them earlier was a tall task but the Mavs responded. Dallas hung in and led at the half by two and then used a really good third quarter to take control of the game and eventually win 111-103 Friday night in Dallas.

Miami kept it interesting, but the Bulls outmatched them

After a nerve-filled win in his first trip back to Miami this season, Dwyane Wade led the Bulls to a 105-100 victory in his first career home game against the Heat. He finished with 28 points (on 11 of 24 shooting), three rebounds, three assists, and two blocks in another tightly contested matchup with his former franchise.

It wasn’t always pretty, but it counts in the win column just the same.

The Rockets overcame some fourth-quarter doldrums that were self-inflicted and some horrid calls by the officials down the stretch, and they also got 21 points, 9 rebounds and 12 assists from James Harden told hold off the Oklahoma City Thunder for a 102 - 99 victory and their fifth straight win.

Houston also got one heck of a gutsy performance from Patrick Beverley, who finished with only 3 points on 1-8 shooting, but also had 12 rebounds, 5 assists and 2 steals. In addition, he harassed Russell Westbrook into an 8-25 shooting night, and despite allowing Westbrook his seventh straight triple double, Beverley locked him down into a miss with some nasty defense with under 10 seconds remaining to help seal the Houston win.
