India Hicks has a unique perspective on the royal family. As the goddaughter of Prince Charles and a not-so-distant relative of Prince Philip, she has close ties to the British monarchy, but as an entrepreneur who lives and works in the Bahamas with her family, writing books and designing for her eponymous lifestyle brand, she is both physically and figuratively, an ocean away from that world. But this week, she's exploring her aristocratic roots through a new podcast called, appropriately, The India Hicks Podcast, and the entire first season will center around her mother, Lady Pamela's incredible stories. "In season one, we're talking movies stars, matadors, and maharajas, as we have tea and cake with Lady Pamela Hicks, daughter of Lord and Lady Mountbatten, and of course, India's much-loved mum," says producer Lisa Francesca Nand, introducing the series. "Now in her 90s, Lady Pamela's stories will astound you. She's first cousins with Prince Philip, traveled the world on the famous commonwealth tour when Princess Elizabeth became Queen, was friends with everyone from Grace Kelly to Ghandi, and had a front-row seat as her father, the last Viceroy of India, oversaw the complicated process of partition." The first two episodes, out now, only begin to skim the surface of Lady Pamela's childhood, and highlights include a story about her birth, which involved the then-King of Spain, stories of the royals during WWII, and anecdotes about her family's veritable menagerie of wild animals (including the time she introduced her mongoose to King George VI). ยฉHarpersBazaar
