The Covid-19 vaccination effort which started in 2021 paved the way for the return to normalcy for many Filipinos. And while everyone can get vaccinated, the national government created a priority system to address the people that would be the most vulnerable to the diseases.

The A2 category comprises all senior citizens and is second only to frontline health workers in priority. Because of their advanced age and other health issues, senior citizens need to get vaccinated as their weaker immune system makes them more susceptible to the virus and its deadlier effects.

Ilocos Sur was recently named as one of the Top Performing Local Government Units in the recently-held National Vaccination Day under the A2 Doses Accomplishment category. The award was given by the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) in cooperation with the National Covid-19 Task Force and other national agencies.

Ilocos Sur Governor Ryan Singson welcomed the commendation, saying that the regionโ€™s success would not have been possible if not for the efforts of all the local government officials in the different cities and municipalities of the region. โ€œWe all worked in close coordination with health officials and other government agencies to ensure that we would be able to efficiently distribute the vaccines to our constituents. This was possible because we believed in the seriousness and the urgency of vaccination as one of the best measures to combat Covid-19,โ€ he said.
