Daniel Cormier on Jon Jones: We will ‘eventually fight’

He’s not holding his breath, but Daniel Cormier believes he will eventually rematch Jon Jones.

Daniel Cormier is still trying to come to terms with the fact that he didn’t get to avenge his loss to Jon Jones at UFC 200.

Jones, 29, was pulled from his championship rematch with ‘DC’ just days before the blockbuster event on July 9. The former light heavyweight champ tested positive for two banned substances, clomiphene and letrozole, but is expected to clear his name at an upcoming hearing with the United States Anti-Doping Agency.

‘Bones’ beat Cormier via unanimous decision last year and, despite his test results, is still considered one of the best pound-for-pound fighters on the planet.

Cormier, though, is officially ranked as the No. 1 light heavyweight in the world and is looking to put Jones in the rear-view mirror ahead of his upcoming title defense against Anthony Johnson at UFC 206.

“I have to be at peace with what I've got," Cormier said on Monday’s edition of The MMA Hour, per Dave Doyle of MMA Fighting. "My biggest issue over the whole Jones thing is that I hate not having control over things that affect me. Lately, it seems like he has such massive implications on everything that has to do with my career that it's just affecting me."

Despite this, Cormier believes that he and Jones are on a collision course with destiny and is confident a rematch will take place in the near-future.

"There's no area in my life where anyone has that much say in it," Cormier said. "So, now that I'm not dealing with that right now and I've kind of separated myself from it, it's great, it's really good. We'll fight at some point, because I don't think I'm going to lose, so when he does come back, I'll still just be right here with the belt waiting and we'll eventually fight.

"But I don't even know what's going on with that fight and I don't think about it any more."

Jones’ lawyer, Howard Jacobs, says the USADA have confirmed that Jones’ test results stem from the use of a tainted supplement.

Cormier is scheduled to defend his belt against ‘Rumble’, who he choked out last year at UFC 187, at UFC 206 on Dec. 10 at the Air Canada Centre in Toronto, Canada.
