Werdum vs. Velasquez rematch eyed for UFC 207

A rematch between former heavyweight champions Fabricio Werdum and Cain Velasquez is being set-up for UFC 207, according to MMAjunkie. The fight will likely take place at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, with Friday, December 30 as the penned date.

UFC heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic has requested some time off after his dramatic 1st round KO vs. Alistair Overeem at UFC 203.

Werdum holds a victory over Velasquez when they first faced each other at UFC 188 in June 2015 in Mexico. Then the interim champion, “Vai Cavalo” unified the titles via third round guillotine choke.

He was, however, unable to lengthen his reign when he was defeated by Stipe Miocic by first round knockout in his maiden title defense at UFC 198 last May.

Since losing their titles, both men have picked up victories against Travis Browne to get themselves back on track. Velasquez fought “Hapa” at UFC 200 last July in Las Vegas, emerging victorious by first round knockout and a Performance of the Night Bonus, while Werdum did so last weekend at UFC 203 in Cleveland, winning by unanimous decision.
