Randy Orton not transitioning to MMA unless he’s fighting ‘Connor McDonald’

CM Punk recently took a leap of faith and made a transition into mixed martial arts. Unfortunately for him, his UFC debut on Saturday night at UFC 203 was a forgettable one, to say the least, when he lost via first round submission against Mickey Gall.

While UFC fighters such as Ronda Rousey could easily make appearances in the WWE’s major events, the same could not be said for professional wrestlers trying to make a jump into MMA. It is a fact that multi-time WWE champion Randy Orton has recognized and conceded to.

The 36-year-old sports entertainment star had painted a picture of what might happen if he did take an MMA fight, seemingly alluding to how Punk ended his fight against Gall. At the same time, he did entertain the idea by naming the one fighter he intends to face.

“The Viper” was obviously referring to featherweight champion Conor McGregor, and when a follower named the UFC champ, Orton responded in jest.

Orton did get a taste of how it would be in an MMA fight, when he was on the receiving end of a bloody ground-and-pound attack from Brock Lesnar during their match at SummerSlam in late August. He ended up with a deep gash on his head that required ten staples to close, while Lesnar was slapped with a $500 fine for “absolutely crossing the line.”
