Bisping: I ‘like’ McGregor, but Eddie Alvarez ‘kills him’ at 155

With Conor McGregor avenging his loss to Nate Diaz at UFC 202, there’s talk of the Irishman taking on Eddie Alvarez for the lightweight title.

McGregor, who beat Diaz via majority decision, was originally supposed to challenge then-lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos at UFC 196. ‘The Notorious’ captured the featherweight title from Jose Aldo last year and wanted to replicate his success in Cage Warriors by becoming the UFC’s first simultaneous two-division champ.

Unfortunately for McGregor, dos Anjos pulled out with injury and the SBG Ireland product suffered his first defeat in the Octagon against Diaz earlier in March.

UFC middleweight champion Michael Bisping, who picked McGregor to beat Diaz at UFC 202, thinks the Dubliner is out of his element against Eddie Alvarez.

"I think looking at that last fight, he does not want to fight Eddie Alvarez at 155," Bisping told Daily Star Sport in a recent interview. "I think Alvarez kills him man. He’ll just take him down and destroy him. I’m not saying that to be mean, I just think stylistically.”

Despite his one-sided prediction, Bisping has nothing but admiration for McGregor and respects what he has done for the sport.

"I like Conor. Conor is incredible, he’s done amazing things for this sport. He’s brought so many eyes on to it, he’s making so much money and he’s exciting as hell. He brings excitement."

Alvarez became the new 155-pound king when he knocked out dos Anjos in the first round at UFC Fight Night 90 and, upon upon claiming the belt, immediately called for an ‘easy’ fight with McGregor.

McGregor, though, hinted that his next fight might not even be in the UFC.

Bisping will defend his middleweight belt for the first time against Dan Henderson at UFC 204. The British pay-per-view takes place October 8 at the Manchester Arena in Manchester, England.
