Daniel Cormier on Jon Jones’ polygraph

Daniel Cormier on Jon Jones’ polygraph

Consider Daniel Cormier unimpressed by the news that Jon Jones recently passed a lie detector test.
Jones, who is facing sanctioning for a failed drug test following his UFC 214 victory over Cormier in Anaheim, Calif., recently took a polygraph test which apparently claimed he did not knowingly use steroids.
The test, which was not done by the request of the UFC, USADA, or the California State Athletic Commission, may not be admissible in his upcoming hearing.
For his part, Cormier, who meets Volkan Oezdemir in the co-feature bout of Saturday’s UFC 220 at TD Garden, pointed out that polygraphs aren’t always reliable, noting that even a notorious serial killer once passed such a test.

”Jon Jones took a polygraph test to prove his innocence,” Cormier said at Wednesday’s open workouts. “And I’m going to say this: Ted Bundy passed a polygraph test … and then killed the f*cking guy that was giving it to him!”

Bundy was a serial killer who was executed in 1989 for murdering at least 30 people over many years in multiple states. While Bundy did pass a polygraph at one point, he did not murder the test administrator.

Cormier’s history with Jones has been well-documented by this point. Jones handed DC his first career loss at UFC 182. Then Cormier won the vacated light heavyweight title over Anthony Johnson after Jones was stripped of the belt and suspended due to legal issues. Jones defeated Cormier via head kick in the third round of their UFC 214 bout to regain the belt, but following the drug test failure, the bout was ruled a no-contest and Cormier was restored as champ.

This is Cormier’s first title defense since that situation, but DC says he no longer feels the need to justify his status and is no longer going to sweat what people might think about his rivalry with Jones.

“I am so secure and happy in what I’ve done in my career that I don’t need anything else,” Cormier said. “Someone asked me on the way over here, ‘is this fight a justification, how do I justify my title reign?’ I said I don’t have to, I know what I’ve done, when all is said and done, when I’m long gone, I’ll always have been the UFC champion, and now I’ve been UFC champion for three years. I’m done with justifying. I’m done with that.”
