UFC welterweight Diego Sanchez released a short statement following his brutal knockout defeat vs. Matt Brown.

One of the defining aspects of Diego Sanchez’s career was his ability to take insane amounts of punishment in his fights, but avoid getting knocked out. His only stoppage loss prior to the start of 2016 was the infamous cut he suffered against B.J. Penn at UFC 107 back in 2009.

Those days are long gone, as Sanchez has been finished three times in his last four fights, including a vicious elbow KO vs. Matt Brown in Saturday’s UFC Fight Night: Poirier vs. Pettis co-main event. In the aftermath of that one-shot finish, The Ultimate Fighter season 1 winner released this statement on Instagram.

I love y'all fans hope you guys liked the fight, what can I say but it hurts to let down the family. But that's the fight game. I still have fight in me I'm not done yet I know that @iamtheimmortal what a classy competitor.

Sanchez (27-11) has had a whopping 27 of his 38 professional fights take place under the UFC banner. He’ll go down as one of the most entertaining and memorable figures of this sport’s history, but it’s clear that the 35-year-old’s best days are well behind him, and these string of knockout losses have no doubt been brutal to watch. It’s not been entirely negative, as he did defeat Marcin Held by unanimous decision last year, so maybe the solution is to not book him against dangerous strikers anymore.
