Khan not scared of McGregor: Give me six months of MMA training and I'd be 'bang on'

Amir Khan seems serious about a switch from boxing to MMA. Last week, the Olympic silver medalist posed inside the Octagon, claiming that 'UFC training' had started.

This week, Khan is calling out UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor in hopes of a potential mega-fight with the Irishman.

Khan previously claimed he'd need a full-year of MMA training before making his debut, but the Bolton-born fighter now believes just six months would do the job.

According to Edward Chaykovsky of Boxing Scene, Khan says he'd like to train for six months in preparation for a fight with McGregor.

"I think a Conor McGregor fight would be massive," Khan said. "It would be a full MMA fight, as I'm not scared of him. But listen, I would need six months to train MMA fully and I will spend every day in the cage until I'm bang on.

"He's a great fighter and I'm not saying I want to fight him because I don't like him. It's because he's the best fighter and the biggest name."

Floyd Mayweather Jr. had called for a boxing match with 'The Notorious' but the hype fizzled out after McGregor's rematch with Nate Diaz was announced for UFC 202. Diaz vs. McGregor II will take place August 20th at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Khan, who moved up to 155-pounds to challenge Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez for the WBC middleweight title earlier in May, was hospitalised after suffering a devastating KO in the 6th round. The 29-year-old was cleared by doctors but the knockout is considered to be one of the year's most brutal finishes.
