Manager confirms Henry Cejudo will fight at UFC 218, despite injuries from California fire

Manager Ali Abdelaziz has confirmed that Henry Cejudo’s fight against Sergio Pettis at UFC 218 will go as planned.

UFC flyweight contender Henry Cejudo went through a terrifying ordeal on Monday, when he was caught in the middle of the Northern California wildfires. But this incident will not be an impediment to his upcoming fight against Sergio Pettis at UFC 218.

This was confirmed by his own manager Ali Abdelaziz, who spoke to MMAjunkie on Tuesday. Abdelaziz also asserted that his client is in no danger, despite suffering some burns on his foot. An initial report from the San Francisco Chronicle said that Cejudo broke his ankle, but that was not the case.

“He woke up to the fire alarm, but he thought it was just a false alarm so he went back to sleep,” Abdelaziz said. “He woke up at 4 a.m. to his room being filled with smoke. He had no choice but to jump (from the balcony) on the second floor. He landed on some fire and burned his foot. He’s safe.”

In another Instagram post, Cejudo stated that he will be leaving for Brazil to train alongside Patricio and Patricky Freire, in preparation for Pettis.

Hey everybody just want to say thank you for the love and support. Prayers to all the families that lost somebody in the fire. I’m doing fine and my foot isn’t broken but I did burn my foot on the way down after jumping out the window. It’s just a long story but I’ll keep you guys posted when I do a interview. As of now I’m on my way to Natal, Brazil to take care of business at #ufc218

UFC 218 takes place on December 2nd, at Little Caesar’s Arena in Detroit.
