Jose Aldo can’t wait to fight again: It would be a ‘dream’ to fight at UFC 217 in New York

Jose Aldo isn’t concerned about who is next opponent is, but he really wants to fight at UFC 217 on Nov. 4.

Jose Aldo might be considering a career in boxing, but the former UFC featherweight champion can’t wait to return to the Octagon.

In a recent interview at his burger joint, ‘Famous Burger’ in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, ‘Scarface’ said it would be a ‘dream’ to fight at the upcoming UFC 217 pay-per-view in New York City.

“It's a dream to fight (in New York), especially at Madison Square Garden,” Aldo said on Friday, per MMA Fighting’s Guilherme Cruz. “That's a dream I have. I grew up watching boxers fighting there, so fighting at this arena is historical for me. I want to be on this (card).”

Aldo, who lost his featherweight title to Max Holloway at UFC 212, isn’t concerned about who his opponent is and wants to fight as soon as possible.

“Man, I want to fight, no matter who the opponent is,” he said. “The sooner, the better. I wanted to fight twice more (this year) but it won’t happen, so at least one before the end the of the year and again in January. That’s what I want."

A rematch with Cub Swanson has been suggested, but Aldo, the former WEC and UFC featherweight champ, says ‘Killer Cub’ is expecting a baby. Aldo knocked out Swanson with a sensational double flying knee in the first 8 seconds of their title eliminator at WEC 41.

The Brazilian is waiting to talk with UFC matchmaker Sean Shelby to figure out what’s best.

“Cub said his wife is expecting a baby, if I’m not mistaken, so he doesn’t want to fight for now, so we don’t know anything,” Aldo said. “‘Dede’ is talking to [UFC matchmaker] Sean (Shelby) and I’ll sit down with him, but, for now, I don’t have a name. I have to talk to ‘Dede’ first.

"(Pederneiras) said he has good things (to say), so I want to see what happens."

Aldo was formerly ranked as the No. 1 pound-for-pound fighter in the world and, despite losing in recent fights to Holloway and Conor McGregor, is still ranked in the top 12 p4p rankings.

UFC 217, which features a headlining middleweight championship tilt between Michael Bisping and Georges St-Pierre and a co-headlining bantamweight championship bout between Cody Garbrandt and T.J. Dillashaw, takes place on November 4 at Madison Square Garden in New York.
