Mike Perry-Thiago Alves, Hector Lombard-Anthony Smith on tap for UFC Pittsburgh

Welterweights Mike Perry and Thiago Alves, plus middleweights Hector Lombard and Anthony Smith will scrap at UFC Pittsburgh.

A couple of matchups scheduled for a now-scrapped August 19th show have been rescheduled for the UFC’s return to Pittsburgh, PA on September 16th. MMA Fighting’s Ariel Helwani reported on Wednesday that welterweights Mike Perry and Thiago Alves, as well as middleweights Hector Lombard and Anthony Smith have been added to the lineup.

Perry (10-1) bounced back from his defeat to Alan Jouban by sensationally knocking out Jake Ellenberger with a vicious bloody elbow at UFC Nashville in April. All of Perry’s wins have come by KO or TKO. Alves (22-11) defeated Patrick Cote by unanimous decision at UFC 210, also in April. The former welterweight title challenger returned to the division after a failed attempt to cut to lightweight, which resulted in a catchweight loss to Jim Miller. He’d also suffered a doctor’s stoppage TKO loss to Carlos Condit last May.

Lombard (34-7-1, 2 NCs) is without a win since March 2014. The former Bellator champion failed a drug test which turned a January 2015 victory over Josh Burkman into a no-contest. Since then, he’s suffered three straight losses to Neil Magny, Dan Henderson, and Johny Hendricks. Smith (27-12) has a record of 3-1 inside the Octagon, and has finished Elvis Mutapcic and Andrew Sanchez in his last two bouts.

UFC Fight Night: Pittsburgh does not yet have a main event. The main card will air on Fox Sports 1 and go directly opposite the big HBO pay-per-view boxing match between Gennady Golovkin and Canelo Alvarez.
