UFC fighter rankings: Jon Jones, Kelvin Gastelum eligible again

The most recent UFC rankings update re-added a couple of familiar faces.

Jon Jones and Kelvin Gastelum are back. Both men, who have been staples of the rankings for a long time, recently had suspensions lifted and became eligible for the rankings ahead of their respective bouts later this month. Between that and the rise of two big winners at UFC Glasgow, there was a lot of activity in the newest version of the rankings.

Let’s get to it.

P4P - Jones jumps right back into the list at number seven, and will probably move up more before his UFC 214 bout with Daniel Cormier on July 29th. This dropped all of the fighters below him down a spot - Joanna Jedrzejczyk, Tyron Woodley, Dominick Cruz, Michael Bisping, Jose Aldo, Amanda Nunes, Robert Whittaker, and T.J. Dillashaw.

Heavyweight - No changes.

Light Heavyweight - Jones was immediately slotted in as the number-one contender. Pretty much everyone else dropped a spot. Two through seven are now Alexander Gustafsson, Jimi Manuwa, Glover Teixeira, Volkan Oezdemir, Shogun Rua, and Corey Anderson. Ovince Saint Preux is tied for seven with Anderson. Misha Cirkunov, Ilir Latifi, Antonio Rogerio Nogueira, and UFC on Fox fighter Patrick Cummins are ranked nine through 12 now. Gian Villante stays at 13. Tyson Pedro drops two to 14. Gadzhimurad Antigulov drops one to 15. Jared Cannonier disappears off the list.

Middleweight - Gastelum is back in the eight spot. The removal of Bellator-bound Gegard Mousasi meant that everyone stayed pretty much the same though, except for three fighters - Chris Weidman, Anderson Silva, and Derek Brunson. They all moved up a spot to 5, 6, and 7 respectively.

Welterweight - For some reason, Carlos Condit passed Neil Magny for the five spot. Santiago Ponzinibbio’s emphatic KO win over Gunnar Nelson sent him soaring six spots from 14 to 8. Nelson dropped three spots to 11. Dong Hyun Kim dropped two spots to 13. Ryan LaFlare dropped one to 14.

Lightweight - Justin Gaethje enters the top five contenders, dropping Nate Diaz one spot to six.

Featherweight - Doo Ho Choi is up one spot to 11, bumping Darren Elkins to 12.

Bantamweight - No changes.

Flyweight - Tim Elliott is up three spots to 9, and Dustin Ortiz dropped three spots to 12. Alexandre Pantoja is up one to 13. Louis Smolka dropped one to 14.

Women’s Bantamweight - Germaine de Randamie is up two spots to eight. Liz Carmouche dropped to nine, with Alexis Davis dropping to ten. Katlyn Chookagian dropped from a tie for 13 down to 14. Leslie Smith enters the list at 15.

Women’s Strawweight - Cynthia Calvillo’s hue win over Joanne Calderwood sent her up six spots from 14 to 8. Calderwood dropped two to 10. Felice Herrig, Paige VanZant, Cortney Casey, and Maryna Moroz each dropped one spot to 11-14 respectively.
