Former UFC fighter Cody Pfister was arrested this weekend for assault causing bodily injury to a family member.

Former UFC fighter Cody Pfister was arrested around 1:00am on Saturday, July 15th and booked into Potter County Detention Center in Amarillo, TX after being charged with assault and causing bodily injury to a family member. Per the Potter County Sheriff’s Department, Pfister was released after paying $5,000 in bail.

According to Potter County court records, a probable cause warrant for ‘assault causes bodily injury family violence’ was issued for Pfister on June 27th for an incident that took place on June 5th. The charge (state statute 22.01. (a)(1)) is a Class A Misdemeanor in Texas and is defined under the Texas penal code as ‘intentionally, knowingly, or recklessly causing bodily injury to another, including the person’s spouse.’

The 27-year-old UFC veteran was arrested and bailed on the eve of the first ever event produced by Fist Fight Night; a professional promotion Pfister co-owns with business partner Dustin Swaim (per Amarillo Globe-News). Despite his arrest, Pfister was reported to be in attendance for Saturday night’s show at the Azteca Music Hall in Amarillo.

Cody ‘the Pfist’ Pfister fought four times in the UFC, making his debut against James Moontasri at UFC Fight Night: Henderson vs. Thatch in February 2015. After losing to Moontasri, Pfister defeated Yosdenis Cedeno at UFC 189 to set up a fight with the then-much hyped ‘Super’ Sage Northcutt at UFC Fight Night: Namajunas vs. VanZant. Pfister would lose to Northcutt by guillotine choke. His last UFC appearance was a unanimous decision loss to Scott Holtzman at UFC Fight Night: McDonald vs. Lineker in July 2016.

In March, Pfister defeated Jonathan Gary at Bellator 174 via submission. In his post-fight comments, Pfister announced that he was retiring from MMA with a record of 13-6-1.

Pfister is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
