Conor McGregor reveals what Floyd Mayweather was saying to him during their face off at the first presser in Los Angeles on Tuesday.
After almost a year of social media wars that led to the fight’s finalization in June, Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor finally shared the stage on Tuesday at the fight’s kick-off presser in Los Angeles. Their staredown afterward was already an event itself, but the words exchanged were inaudible from the crowd’s point of view.
McGregor spoke to MMA Fighting’s Ariel Helwani after the said media event and revealed what Mayweather was telling him during their 90-second face-off.
“He was trying to say something about the gloves, I was like ‘you cried about the gloves, you cried about the ounces of the gloves,’” McGregor said. “Then he tried to say something about ‘UFC next’ or ‘MMA next’, so I was like ‘don’t be talking sh-t that you won’t do.’”
Recent reports have claimed that Mayweather is currently in trouble with the IRS for unpaid taxes as far back as 2015. McGregor already spoke about how “f—ked” his upcoming opponent is with the situation, but he also believes that Mayweather is taking this fight out of financial desperation.
“I believe he has to take this fight. He’s in a dire financial situation. I’m still trying to learn this tax game, I’m only new to the money, myself. (But) it doesn’t sound like a good position to be in.”
As for his MMA career, McGregor confirmed that he will be fighting on the UFC’s year end card. But as for the opponent, he has yet to see what the contender landscape will be offering him.
“I’m gonna fight. I always want to fight. I’m an active motherf--ker, what else would I be doing?”
“Who’s fighting?” McGregor said, when asked who intends to defend his title for the first time against. “I see people who are just talking. They’ve fought way before me, I haven’t fought since (November 2015). They’re just yapping, yapping, yapping. So, I’m just looking at people who are coming out and fighting. There’s a few up there, let’s see what happens.”
Mayweather vs. McGregor takes place on August 26th at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
