UFC Oklahoma City results: Tim Boetsch stops Johny Hendricks in round 2

Tim Boetsch put away Johny Hendricks with strikes in the co-main event of UFC Fight Night: Chiesa vs. Lee in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

In the co-main event of UFC Fight Night: Chiesa vs. Lee in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, middleweight veteran Tim Boetsch became just the second man to ever finish former welterweight champion Johny Hendricks, who entered this bout by missing weight again.

Boetsch was very active with his kicks, going both to the leg and the body. Hendricks’ powerful left hand landed on the jaw of “The Barbarian,” who absorbed the blow just fine. It was a good opening round for Boetsch, who was scoring effective strikes even with Hendricks doing the pressuring. He sneaked in a couple of right hands at range and in close, and Hendricks was looking a step slow.

A terrific head kick by Boetsch stunned Hendricks in round 2, and “Bigg Rigg” was staggered. Boetsch went in for the finish, slamming home several right uppercuts to knock Hendricks down. With Hendricks turtled up and not responding to the punches thrown on the ground by Boetsch, the referee stopped the fight. The crowd was fairly muted, as Oklahoma’s own Hendricks looked an absolute shell of his former championship self.

Official result: Tim Boetsch def. Johny Hendricks by TKO (head kick and punches) at :46 of round 2

Boetsch is still going strong at 36 years old, and this is his third win in four fights. Hendricks has lost four of five, missed weight in three of them, and you have to wonder if this was the end of Johny’s UFC tenure.
