Mayweather’s trainer: I’m ‘worried’ McGregor will get frustrated and ‘do something crazy’

Floyd Mayweather’s trainer is ‘concerned’ that Conor McGregor might get frustrated to the point that he does something ‘stupid’ to get disqualified.

With MMA vs boxing being the general theme for their August super-fight, many fans and pundits have been talking about Conor McGregor possibly straying from the boxing ruleset when he faces Floyd Mayweather. Even UFC commentator Joe Rogan recently said that Conor McGregor would be a “folk hero” if he brutally knocks out Mayweather with a head kick.

It seems to be on the minds of people within Floyd’s circle as well, with his assistant trainer Nate Jones saying that’s one of his worries.

“One way I can see the fight ending is Floyd outboxing him, beating the crap out of him. Another way I’m gonna be concerned about is when Floyd gets to a point where he frustrates him too much, McGregor’s gonna do something crazy,” Jones told Submission Radio. “That’s the only thing I’m worried about.”

Floyd’s trainer did give McGregor credit for his punching power, but in the end, he thinks the UFC champion loses a one sided bout, or by disqualification if he does something stupid.

“We’ve seen Sugar Shane Mosely, we seen (DeMarcus) Chop Chop Corley, we seen Zab Judah hit him with a good shot and Floyd kept going. You know, this guy might be — I think his punching power, I think he punches a little bit harder than those guys. That’s my opinion. I would be more concerned about this fight because Floyd’s a little older now. He’s 40 years old, McGregor has crazy weird power and he’s got weird shots from weird angles. I’m worried about that.

“But for my prediction in the fight, is Floyd either confusing him and frustrating him and stopping him in the later rounds or Floyd outboxing him or he doing something stupid and losing the fight. That’s my prediction.”

Dana White earlier mentioned that contractually, McGregor isn’t allowed to “go rogue” and would lose money if he breaks the rules. That said, it seems like the stipulation hasn’t stopped his trainers from being worried about it happening though. After all, it wouldn’t be the first time someone in a boxing match gets frustrated to the point that they headbutt, low blow, or even bite off an ear.

Listen to the full interview below, where Jones also speaks about McGregor’s sparring video with Van Heerden possibly being “staged”, and how any antics in press-conferences is “not gonna rattle Floyd.”
