Coach: McGregor undergoing 'military style' training for Diaz

No more waking up at 11pm to begin training sessions for Conor McGregor. According to longtime coach John Kavanagh, 'The Notorious' has undergone a 'military style' training regime in preparation for Nate Diaz at UFC 202.

McGregor, known for his spontaneity and carefree attitude, is in the gym for 1pm and follows a specific set of training exercises. Kavangh went into detail on ESPN's Five Round podcast on Thursday.

"If I was to sum it up, there's order to this training camp," Kavanagh said during a recent appearance on ESPN's Five Rounds podcast. "There's no chaos. Everything is very disciplined, very military style. Beforehand, it was kind of done on Conor's whim, how he felt on a certain day.

"This training camp has been based on cycles. Every day, we start at 1 p.m. sharp. In the evenings, we do cardio training. Everything is measured, nothing is left to 'How you feeling?' We have a performance doctor taking care of the performance side of things, I'm taking care of the fighting side of things, everybody is working together and nothing we've done before comes close to comparison for this one."

His rematch with Diaz, which headlines the UFC 202 pay-per-view, comes five months after their original bout at UFC 196. McGregor, who entered the bout as a massive favorite, was submitted in the second round after shooting for a desperate takedown.

The Irishman captured the featherweight title at UFC 194, but Kavanagh says the rematch with Diaz is even more important than his championship fight with Aldo. The SBG Ireland head coach says McGregor's legacy is on the line against Diaz.

"This fight actually feels bigger to me than the [Jose Aldo championship fight in December], if I'm being honest. I really feel this will sum up a lot of what the gym stands for and of course, Conor's legacy as well."

UFC 202, which also features a pivotal light heavyweight bout between Anthony Johnson and Glover Teixeira in the co-main event, takes place on August 20 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
