Tony Ferguson lays into Conor McGregor: You 'can’t run forever', that title is mine

Ferguson calls out McGregor on twitter, warning the Irishman that he's coming for the UFC lightweight title.

Tony Ferguson is tired of waiting for his title shot. The No. 2 ranked lightweight — per the official UFC rankings — is on a nine-fight win streak and was expected to collide with the No. 1 ranked Khabib Nurmagomedov in an interim championship showdown at UFC 209.

That bout fell through at the last minute because 'The Eagle' failed to make weight and was unfortunately hospitalized. Ferguson, frustrated that he didn't get to establish himself as the clear cut number one contender in what would have ben the most high-profile fight of his career, has put Nurmagomedov in his rear-view mirror and started calling out the official lightweight champ, Conor McGregor.

'El Cucuy' called out McGregor at UFC 209 and fired more shots on Twitter on Thursday, warning 'The Notorious' that he's coming for the belt.

While McGregor is currently pursuing a boxing showdown against Floyd Mayweather Jr., the SBG Ireland product has faced criticism for not defending his lightweight title. The 28-year-old phenom was also slammed for not defending the featherweight strap, which he was stripped of shortly after beating Eddie Alvarez at UFC 205.

Ferguson, 33, is likely to be re-booked against Nurmagomedov for the interim title while McGregor chases the superfight against Mayweather.
