Jacare Souza won’t sit around and wait for a title shot

Ronaldo ‘Jacare’ Souza knows it’s going to be a while before he gets a title shot, and he’s not going to wait around on the sidelines for it.

Unlike a lot of UFC fighters, Ronaldo Souza doesn’t want to rest on his laurels. The longtime middleweight contender has somehow not been granted a shot at the 185-pound UFC title yet, and even with his win over Tim Boetsch at UFC 208 last night, he knows it’s going to be a while until he gets one.

With champion Michael Bisping recovering from knee surgery and likely matching up with Yoel Romero in May or June, Jacare isn’t willing to sit out and wait to fight the winner. He said as much at the UFC 208 post-fight press conference:

“I want to fight the champion, but if that’s going to take a while, I prefer to take another fight because I don’t want to sit around. I wasn’t born to sit around. So I’ll take another fight if it’s going to take too long to get a title shot.”

With that being said, if Romero doesn’t get the title shot for some reason and neither does he, Jacare definitely wants another shot at the guy that controversially defeated him at UFC 194:

“Yes, of course that’s an option, that’s a fight I want,. I’ve never lost a rematch, and with Romero, it’s not going to be any different. I’ll prove I didn’t lose to him. I lost to the judges.”
