It looks like Yoel Romero earned a title shot at UFC 205.

“The Solider of God” arguably picked up the biggest win of his career on the main card of the landmark event, which took place in New York City’s Madison Square Garden on Saturday evening. He knocked out former middleweight champion Chris Weidman with a devastating flying knee, followed up by vicious ground-and-pound, just 24 seconds into the third round.

Romero got into a back-and-forth exchange with 185-pound titleholder Michael Bisping after the fight (Bisping was in attendance and shown on the arena’s big screen), telling the Englishman, “I love you. ... See you soon, boy.”

According to UFC president Dana White, Romero will get the next shot at the belt — however, nothing’s set in stone.

“That’s the fight that makes sense,” White said at the UFC 205 post-fight press conference. “I mean, [Romero] beat Chris Weidman tonight. I don’t know when, but that’s the fight.”

Romero (13-1) has been perfect inside the Octagon. The 39-year-old, who’s currently riding an eight-fight winning streak, holds a number of notable victories, including finishes of Lyoto Machida and Tim Kennedy and a close split decision over Ronaldo Souza.

UFC 205 took place live from Madison Square Garden in New York City on Saturday, Nov. 12. In the main event, Conor McGregor captured the lightweight title with a second-round finish of Eddie Alvarez.
