The UFC is headed down to Uruguay for the first time in company history, and they’re bringing a title fight to Montevideo. Women’s flyweight champion Valentina Shevchenko defends her belt against Liz Carmouche, who controversially beat her by cuts stoppage way back in 2010. As for the co-main event, which I suspect is the fight most want to see over the headliner, is a guaranteed banger between welterweights Vicente Luque and Mike Perry.
The UFC Newark main event just witnessed former interim welterweight champ Colby Covington outstrike ‘Ruthless’ Robbie Lawler. No horse feathers! Covington started out outgripping his adversary, but then switched gears and threw a ton of volume en route to a five-round decision. The #2 ranked UFC welterweight is now on a seven-fight winning streak and just might have a date with the current undisputed champion, Kamaru Usman.
Former UFC middleweight champion and MMA legend Anderson “Spider” Silva of Brazil is now officially a U.S. citizen after being sworn in this week at a ceremony in Los Angeles.
The 44-year-old mixed martial arts great took his oath of citizenship to the USA along with thousands of others at a naturalization ceremony on July 23 held at the LA convention center, according to CNN in a piece published Friday.
The UFC is headed to South Carolina this week for what should be an action-packed, if not necessarily incredibly meaningful fight night card. Top ranked featherweights Renato Moicano and Chan Sung Jung face off in the main event. With bantamweight action fighters John Lineker and Rob Font re-matching in the co-main. Bryan Barberena, Andrea Lee, and Kevin Holland should ensure the rest of the main card is at least fun to watch, no matter how the fights go.
Talking to the media may be a chore for most fighters, but there are few better times to do it than after a big win. When the only thing they have to talk about is success. That’s where Valentina Shevchenko found herself on Saturday night, following her headkick KO win over Jessica Eye at UFC 238 to retain her flyweight title.

WE have no idea if the wishes of Iloilo Governor Arthur "Toto" Defensor Jr. that the proposed Panay-Guimaras-Negros bridge project be specifically mentioned by President Duterte during his State of the Nation Address (SONA) on July 22 was fulfilled.
“In sport, you only see the fighter, but it’s teamwork. Without a good team, you will never be the best. In boxing, you have to work with the best coach, the best lawyer, the best manager, the best doctor. Exactly the same principle applies in politics.”

SENATOR Emmanuel “Manny” Pacquiao’s (62-7-2, 39 KOs) 12-round split decision win over hitherto WBA welterweight champion Keith “One Time” Thurman (29-1, 22 KOs) on July 20 in Las Vegas was considered to be more glorious and exciting compared to his victories over Lucas Martin Matthysse (TKO7) and Adrien Broner (UD12) combined.Read more ...

NEW YORK - 1 Power: Thurman is clearly the bigger man and a better pure power puncher, thus his "One Time" moniker. The problem, however, has been his inability to sit down on his punches and finish opponents the more he has evolved as a boxer. Not counting fights that were stopped due to cuts or injury, Thurman hasn't recorded a true knockout since 2013.Read more ...
