Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) wasted no time re-booking a Featherweight fight between Yair Rodriguez and Jeremy Stephens, who will co-headline UFC on ESPN 6 in Boston, Mass., on Oct. 18, 2019, according to ESPN’s Brett Okamoto. Of course, Rodriguez and Stephens headlined UFC Fight Night 159 this past weekend (Sat., Sept. 21, 2019) in Mexico City, Mexico, however, the fight ended in just 15 seconds after Rodriguez inadvertently poked Stephens in the eye. After a five-minute break, officials decided to rule the fight a “No Contest” because Stephens was unable to open his eye. Afterward, the war-of-words continued between the two men, as “El Pantera” didn’t rule out Stephens over-exaggerating his injuries. And then the following day, the two men were involved in a small tussle in the hotel lobby (see it again here). Now, the hard-hitting 145-pounders will have the chance to settle their differences once and for all inside the Octagon. UFC on ESPN 6 recently lost its co-headlining act when a proposed fight between Zabit Magomedsharipov vs. Calvin Kattar was moved to UFC Fight Night 163 next month. With the extra heat and added controversy between Stephens and Rodriguez, the promotion has a great fight that pretty much sells itself. The only downside is that it is now three rounds instead of five. UFC on ESPN 6 will be headlined by a Light Heavyweight showdown between former Middleweight kingpin, Chris Weidman, challenging Dominick Reyes.
