Stipe Miocic wants to have a word with Colby Covington, vows not to rip his head off for disrespecting his wife
Colby Covington isn’t afraid to make new enemies, even those who train at the same gym as he does, or with those who were once considered his best friends. But the former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) interim Welterweight champion of the world may have just made his biggest enemy yet.
As in Heavyweight champion big.
According to the current UFC 265-pound champion, Stipe Miocic, “Chaos” had something to say to his wife while she was making her way to the cage to celebrate with him after knocking out Daniel Cormier at UFC 241 to reclaim the belt.
“I’m kinda upset with that kid,” Miocic said, speaking on TalkRadio 77 WABC via The Mac Life. “He was saying stuff to my wife after my fight. I might have to talk to him about that. I’m not trying to start anything here, I’m just saying I want a normal conversation. I’m not gonna go out and take his head off.”
While Stipe still can’t get the scoop out of his wife or manager as to what exactly he said — perhaps of fear that it will send him into a rage — the champ is determined to get it straight from the horses mouth.
“My wife was walking to the cage, and I guess he was saying something to her and my manager being the man he is told him to shut the fuck up. To this day my manager won’t tell me what he said, so I’m going to find out. I’m very good, I’m like the FBI. I’ll find out what he said and I’m just gonna go up to him and talk to him about it.”
Still, while others such as Jorge Masvidal and Dustin Poirier want to throw fists after being disrespected by the outspoken 170-pounder, Stipe wants to take the civil route.
“I’m a normal guy,” Miocic said. “I’m just gonna go up to him and talk to him, I’m not gonna take his head off. I’m gonna go, ‘Hey man, what’s your problem’. I’m not mad at the kid, I just want to talk to him about it.”
Of course, one bad word or gesture from Colby could force Stipe to go from zero to one hundred in no time flat. Then again, as we’ve seen in the past (examples here and here) Colby isn’t exactly the Masvidal-type when confronted face-to-face, so don’t expect it to come to blows if Stipe ever runs into “Chaos.”
