In a rare turn of events, Conor McGregor was actually complimentary towards one of his opponents.

For the most part, Conor McGregor only has harsh words towards his fellow fighters, particularly those whom he has been lined up against. But there are those rare moments when he is complimentary towards them.

Speaking in front of a crowd in Glasgow on Friday night, the brash Irishman gave props to how Max Holloway took on all comers to eventually defeat Jose Aldo and become the UFC world featherweight champion.

“He’s done a great job. He’s climbed up and claimed that featherweight belt,” McGregor said (via MMA Fighting). “You see some fights, and so do the public, you see him go in there and you watch him win or lose and you watch how they act and how they carry on.”

“He lost to me and he took it on the chin, he kept his mind frame sharp. Same with (Dustin) Poirier, he’s another guy who kept his mind frame sharp and carried on. (Eddie) Alvarez as well, he took it well – you’ve got to take it on the f--king chin.”

Holloway’s last loss in the UFC was against McGregor, when they fought to a decision in 2013. “The Notorious” was particularly impressed at how Holloway took the loss, and equated it to his current situation dealing with his recent loss to Floyd Mayweather Jr.

“You’re gonna win some, you’re gonna lose some. Get back on your bike, study the game a bit more, put in that extra bit of work and correct those errors that you’ve seen – carry on,” McGregor said. “That’s what I’m doing. That’s what I’ve seen (Holloway) doing. He went on to capture the unified belt off of Aldo, even though I beat both of them. Look, it’s a hard one for me that one.”

Holloway recently went on record to stating that if a rematch against McGregor surfaces, he would prefer for it to be at 155 pounds. Apparently, it is an idea that McGregor is also willing to entertain.

“If he wants to come up, then maybe. We’ll figure it out. That’s another option, but it’s a low down the totem pole option.”

Holloway will defend his title against Frankie Edgar in the UFC 218 headliner in December.
