Matt Brown has announced that he will be retiring after his fight against Diego Sanchez at UFC Fight Night 120.
After more than 12 years in the sport, MMA veteran Matt Brown will be hanging up the gloves after UFC Norfolk on Nov. 11.
The UFC welterweight announced the news on social media, telling fans that he looks forward to putting on a show against fellow veteran Diego Sanchez in his final bout.
Brown, 36, is one of the most exciting and toughest fighters in the sport and almost all of his fights have been thoroughly entertaining. The UFC welterweight has earned several Fight of the Night honors, and his back-and-forth brawl with Erick Silva in 2014 is etched into the history books as one of the all-time greats.
‘The Immortal’ became most popular during his 7-fight win streak from 2012-2014, turning his career around after a three-fight skid and breaking into the top ten. Brown went on to beat the likes of Stephen Thompson, Mike Pyle and Silva but fell short against the divisional elite.
The Ohio native is 1-5 in his last six and was knocked out by Donald Cerrone at UFC 206. Brown also dropped losses to Jake Ellenberger and Demian Maia last year, losing both fights via stoppage.
The fan favorite will take on Diego Sanchez at UFC Fight Night 120 on November 11 at Ted Constant Convocation Center in Norfolk, Virginia. The event will feature a headlining tilt between Dustin Poirier and former lightweight champion Anthony Pettis.
