On the UFC Mexico City main card, Niko Price TKO’d Alan Jouban, Humberto Bandenay slaughtered Martin Bravo, and Alejandro Perez won a war with Andre Soukhamthath.

We are well past the halfway point of UFC Fight Night: Pettis vs. Moreno, as the 1st round finishes continued. Niko Price showed up big time as he scored a major 1st round TKO victory over Alan Jouban. Humberto Bandenay made his UFC in remarkable fashion as he knocked Martin Bravo completely unconscious with a viscous knee kick KO in the 1st round. Sam Alvey picked up a lackluster split decision over Rashad Evans, and Alejandro Perez picked up a razor thin split decision over Andre Soukhamthath in an exciting war that opened up the the main card.

Main Card:

Niko Price def. Alan Jouban by TKO at 1:44 of round 1: Welterweight

Niko Price went right at Alan Jouban to start their welterweight affair, landing a flush right hand, to counter a kick, that dropped his opponent. Price followed up with some ground and pound but the referee had already seen enough, and called off the bout.

Humberto Bandenay def. Martin Bravo by KO at :26 of round 1: Featherweight

Humberto Bandenay made the most of his UFC debut by obliterating Martin Bravo with a body kick followed by a knee kick to the jaw, that sent the TUF Latin America winner out cold in just :26 of the opening round. Wow!

Sam Alvey def. Rashad Evans by Split Decision (29-28, 28-29, 29-28): Middleweight

The UFC’s former light heavyweight champion, Rashad Evans, shot in on Sam Alvey in the 1st minute of the fight, but stalled out against the cage. Evans persisted with his takedown attempt and successfully put Alvey on the ground, albeit briefly. Alvey began walking down his opposition to start the second frame, as he landed a few crisp right hands. Evans responded by changing levels and dumping his foe, but Alvey bounced right back up to his feet. The 3rd round looked a lot like what we saw in round 2, with Evans looking to wrestle and Alvey landing the volume. Alvey went on to win the split decision in one of the slower bouts on the card.

Alejandro Perez def. Andre Soukhamthath (29-28, 28-29, 29-28): Bantamweight

It was a bit of a slow start to this bantamweight bout, until a straight left hand from Soukhamthath floored Perez. Some solid leg kicks landed for Perez, but Soukhamthath dropped his opponent yet again with a stiff jab. Perez recovered quickly and attempted a takedown from a bodylock, but Soukhamthath defended well and remained vertical. Perez started the second stanza by landing some clean right hands, but another Soukhamthath jab put Perez on the mat for the 3rd time. Soukhamthath seemed to be enjoying himself, taunting his opponent while connecting with stinging punches to both the body and head. Perez connected with an overhand right that dropped Soukhamthath, and followed into the guard of his opposition. Soukhamthath was able to return to his feet and landed a flush left hook to the jaw of Perez on the break.

Perez shot in and nearly scored an early single leg, but Soukhamthath showed off some superb TD defense and kept the fight standing. Perez would return to the takedown with about 2 minutes remaining in the bout, but Soukhamthath used the cage to return to his feet before sustaining any damage. Soukhamthath pressed forward down the stretch, stuffing a late takedown attempt from Perez, but ended up on his back as the fight came to a close. Despite 3 knockdowns for Soukhamthath, the split decision victory was ultimately awarded to Perez in the exciting back and forth affair that kick started the UFC Mexico City main card.
