Jon Jones is back at the top of the heap in the UFC’s pound-for-pound rankings.
The king has re-taken his throne. Jon Jones, the longtime chart-topper in the pound-for-pound rankings and the light heavyweight division, has taken back both of those elite spots with his third-round stoppage win over Daniel Cormier at UFC 214. He became the first man to stop fellow P4P-ranked Cormier, and that was enough to push by Demetrious Johnson for the number one position again.
UFC 214 did cause some ripples in other divisions as well, including a new challenger at 205 rising a couple of spots with a big win. Without further ado, here are all the changes coming out of the Anaheim PPV.
P4P - Jones takes over number one, moving up four spots from five. Demetrious Johnson and Conor McGregor fall one spot to two and three respectively. Max Holloway and Cody Garbrandt are up one to five and six respectively. Cormier dropped four big spots to seven. UFC women’s featherweight title winner Cris Cyborg makes the list at 13, dropping Amanda Nunes to 14 and Robert Whittaker to 15.
Heavyweight - Junior Albini moved up one to 13, dropping Travis Browne to 14.
Light Heavyweight - Jones is the champ, Cormier is now the number one contender. Volkan Oezdemir’s quick KO win over Jimi Manuwa saw him move up two spots from five to three, with Manuwa dropping to two to five. Corey Anderson dropped from a tie for seven to eight.
Middleweight - No changes.
Welterweight - Demian Maia’s one-sided title shot loss saw him drop two spots from one to three. Stephen Thompson is again the number one contender, moving up one spot. Robbie Lawler’s close win over Donald Cerrone moved him up two spots to the number two position. Cerrone dropped from a tie for six down to seven.
Lightweight - No changes.
Featherweight - Brian Ortega’s latest third-round win moved him up two spots to six, dropping Yair Rodriguez and Jeremy Stephens one spot each to seven and eight. Darren Elkins is up one to nine. Renato Moicano dropped one to ten. Myles Jury entered the list at 14 for some reason I don’t understand since he hasn’t fought since April.
Bantamweight - Jimmie Rivera moves into a tie for the three spot with Raphael Assuncao. Aljamain Sterling’s win moved him up one spot to seven, dropping John Dodson to eight. Kind of amusing, since it didn’t actually take place at bantamweight. Marlon Moraes moved up to nine, tied with Thomas Almeida.
Flyweight - No changes.
Women’s Bantamweight - Katlyn Chookagian moved up two spots to 13. Bethe Correia dropped one to 14.
Women’s Strawweight - No changes.
