Diaz says he’s planning to obtain a boxing license in California and Nevada.

The third instalment of Nate Diaz vs. Conor McGregor could take place in the boxing ring.

At least, that’s what Diaz hinted at when he revealed his plans to obtain a boxing license in the states of California and Nevada, per ESNews (h/t Elias Cepeda of Champions.co).

McGregor, 28, was issued a California state boxing license last month and believes he could compete with the best boxers in the world if he dropped his MMA training.

However, the Irishman was fined $150,000 by the Nevada Athletic Commission (NAC) for his bottle-throwing fiasco with Diaz at the UFC 202 pre-fight press conference and has no plans to fight in the state again.

Many believe McGregor acquired the boxing license as a publicity stunt or negotiating ploy, but Stockton’s-own Diaz said he’s very serious about making his own boxing debut.

"I'm not doing it for a publicity stunt - I'm doing it because I love the sport of boxing," he said.

"I want to win. I want to fight, for real, and get out of some of this sh-t that I'm not into, anyway. I don't think they want me in there, anyway, so might as well stay out.”

Diaz and McGregor have formed one of the most scathing rivalries, and both men walked away as legends after their pulsating battle at UFC 202. It was ‘The Notorious’ who walked away with the majority decision in August, but Diaz choked him out in their first welterweight scrap at UFC 196.

McGregor is apparently taking 10 months off to support his pregnant girlfriend, Dee Devlin, and Diaz subsequently tweeted out his own plans for a 10-month vacation.

McGregor last fought at UFC 205, where he TKO’d Eddie Alvarez to become lightweight champion, and Diaz hasn’t stepped into the Octagon since his five-round war with McGregor at UFC 202.
