PHILIPPINES Football League (PFL) pace-setting teams FC Meralco Manila and Kaya FC-Makati get tangled once again this season in a scheduled league fixture tomorrow at 4 p.m. at the University of Makati Football Stadium.
The 4 p.m. game marks the third time that the two teams are meeting in the inaugural season of the newly created national football league which has the Sparks getting the better of Kaya so far, 2-0.
Meralco (13-5-2) is on top of the standings with 44 points while Kaya (11-5-6) is second-running with 38.
Both teams are coming off convincing victories in their previous matches.
The Sparks were a 2-0 winner over Davao Aguilas FC last Saturday in what was the first game of erstwhile Meralco players Phil and James Younghusband in a Davao jersey.
Tahj Minniecon (52’) and Jake Morallo (80’) starred for the Sparks against Davao with second-half goals that resulted to the win.
Kaya, for its part, was a 4-0 runaway winner over Stallion Laguna FC also last Saturday.
League scoring leader Jordan Mintah had a brace while Miguel Tanton and Eric Giganto each had a goal in an explosive second half for Kaya.
Mr. Mintah’s goals came in the 61st and 67th minute while those of Messrs. Tanton and Giganto were fashioned out in the 63rd and 86th minute, respectively.
“We’re really happy with the win, we really needed that. I think coming into this game, everyone was on the same page… I give credit to all our players for playing very well,” said winning coach Noel Marcaida.
Other PFL games scheduled tomorrow before the league takes a two-week international break will be Stallion versus Davao at 4 p.m. at the Biñan Football Stadium and Ceres-Negros FC against Ilocos United FC at 7 p.m. at the Panaad Park and Football Stadium in Bacolod City. — Michael Angelo S. Murillo
