Ceres Negros FC cameout with a solid 5-2 win over the weekend to sweep the visiting Stallion Laguna FC in their fourth straight victory in the Philippines Football League at the Panaad Oark and Stadium.
The home squad delighted the 2,640 fans at Panaad with Stephan Schröck opening the scoring in the 12th minute – beating Stallion keeper Roland Sadia as Jeffrey Christaens made it doubled in the 25th minute on a pass from the former SpVgg Greuther Fürth midfielder.
Ceres FC extended the lead with Ian Ramsay and OJ Porteria nailed 2 more goals in the 29th and 32nd minutes for a commanding 4-nil advantage at the half.
The home squad further extended their lead to 5-0 when substitute Bienvenido Maranon scored on a penalty in the 61st minute after Stallion was called for a hand ball.
However, Stallion didn’t easily give up as skipper Ruben Doctora intercepted a weak backpass by Ceres FC and scored Laguna’s first in the 77th while Terrence Linatoc doubled the visitor’s score in the 81st minute.
For the Stallion FC Coch Richard Leyble, they learned a lot from their two games in Panaad. He admitted that they have lots of things to work on in order to notch their first win. “With the result, we may also think of strenthening our recruitment and train harder to meet the standard of this league,” he stressed.
For Ceres FC Coach Risto Vidakovic, said that it’s not easy to play this level but, stressed that the team did everything. “They worked hard in the first half, especially in the first half was very hot. I think the referee forgot to give the water break. So I can only congratulate my players that they give their one-hundred percent and congratulations for the win and three points,” he added.
Schrock, on his part, said that it was important for them to get a good lead in the halftime. “Like the coach mentioned it was very hot. I think we played pretty much okay the first half, some good combination. Here and there we had some lack of concentration (in the second half) but i think its normal when if you play at 4PM in this heat. All in all we can be happy and proud of the first half especially,” he stressed.
Ceres FC will cross the Tanon Straight to challenge their long-time archrival Global Cebu FC – which will be playing their first real home game on July 5 at 7PM at the Abellana Sports Center.
Tay Tung Thunderbolts beat CPU in regional Shakey’s V-Legue
Bacolod Tay Tung High School Thunderbolts avenged their pair of defeats agaisnt Central Philippine University in summer with a come from behind victory on weekend in the Shakey’s Volleyball Girls Season 15 Western Visayas/NIR Leg at the Iloilo Doctor's College.
The Thunderbolts came off a 2 sets down: 10-25, 18-25, 25-10, 25-17 and 15-9 to secure tickets to the National League of Champions 2017 at Laguna.
En route the finals, Tay Tung defeated eventual third placer and fellow Bacolod City-based St. John’s Institute, 25-23 and 25-12, and fourth placer University of St. La Salle, 25-22 and 25-15.
Suiting up for John Otserol-mentored team are Kiesha Bedonia, Alyssa Bertolano, Shane Carmona, Katherine Shane Cortez, Beatrice Decena, Joan Doguna, Joan Monares, Jeanny Padilla, Nohlin Jundana, Marixi Maligmat, Hannah Quanico and eventual MVP Marianne Sotomil.
Jose Montalbo, Tay Tung’s Vice-Chair for Sports, said that values, discipline, character and team work made the team a champion. “Glory to God. We’re now ready for the Milo Little Olympics on August 24 to 29 in Cebu City,” he said
