    International Master Paulo Bersamina defeated National Master Julius Sinangote after 49 moves of Sicilian defense in the final round to emerge as the overall champion of the 2019 GM Rosendo Balinas Memorial Cup chess championship (Grand Finals) at the Activity Hall, Second Floor Alphaland Makati Place in Malugay Street, Makati City on Tueday.

    Bersamina finished with 12 points to win the Fide rated standard-time control tournament and pocket the P50,000 top purse in this event jointly organized by National Chess Federation of the Philippines (NCFP) director Atty. Cliburn Anthony Orbe and Philippine Executive Chess Association (PECA) president Dr. Jenny Mayor and backed up by engineer Antonio "Tony" Carreon Balinas, US based Joe Balinas, Singapore based Nur Rose Balinas and Alphaland Corporation.

    Grandmaster Darwin Laylo placed 2nd overall with 11.5 points followed by solo third 13-time Philippine Open champion Grandmaster Rogelio Antonio Jr. who tote 11 points. Meantime, Rolly Parondo Jr. is the country's newest National Master after superb perfomance placing 4th overall with 8.5 points.

    Parondo who hails from Oton, Iloilo halving the point with three (3) Grandmasters Laylo, Antonio and John Paul Gomez then beat two International Masters Chris Ramayrat and Angelo Young.

    No less than NCFP deputy secretary-general and executive director Red Dumuk led the closing rites with NCFP director Atty. Cliburn Orbe, PECA president Dr. Jenny Mayor, eng. Antonio "Tony" Carreon Balinas, Nur Balinas, KC Balinas and Angie Balinas Padilla.-Marlon Bernardino-
