    Miciano rules Standard Chess to give PH lone gold in Asian Youth; earns outright IM title

    Manila,Philippines---Chess Wizard John Marvin Miciano struck the lone gold medal for the Philippines after winning the recently-concluded Asian Youth Chess Championship held at the Lotus Pang Suan Kaew Hotel in Chiang Mai, Thailand Monday night.

    The 17-year-old Far Eastern University (FEU) senior high school student also earned his outright International Master (IM) title.

    The Davao City native Miciano defeated Candidate Master Thilakarathne G M H of Sri-Lanka after 44 moves of Sicilian defense Najdorf variation.

    Miciano finished 7.5 points on six wins, three draws after nine rounds, placed 1st out of 30 participants from 26 countries in the boys 18 years old and under division, Standard event .-Marlon Bernardino-
