ALEXANDRA Sydney Paez lived up to her billing by clinching the title of the 23rd Golden Mind Chess Tournament (Under-14) was held last Sunday, November 5, 2017 at the Tagumpay Canteen, Poblacion in Lipa City, Batangas. 

Paez, the pride of Cabuyao, Laguna scored a total of 6.5 points in the seventh-round Swiss System format event to annex the title and the P3,000 champion purse plus a trophy. 

She drew with Junsen Audric Maranan of Tanay, Rizal in the 7th and final round.  She's a grade 9 student of Colegio de San Juan de Letran in Calamba. 

Gladimir Chester Romero of Tanauan, Batangas earned 6.0 points to place second. He received P1,500 plus a medal.

Jeremy Marticio and Maranan shared third to fourth places with 5.5 points

Rounding up the top 11 were Vincent Ryu Dimayuga, Selwyn Alyosha Gaspi, Ian Gabriel Perocho, Darwin Villanueva Jr., Jan Corpuz, Jeroniel Perez and Nina Montero.-Marlon Bernardino-
