Ampid One, San Mateo, Rizal--- The Maravril chess team stole the limelight by winning the Cayetano "Jun" R. Santos Jr. chess team tournament dubbed as JRS chess tatluhan 1950 and below Rapid team tournament last September 3, 2017 (Sunday) here at the Ampid One, Covered Court in San Mateo, Rizal.

Having National Master Julius Sinangote, former five-time Zamboanga del sur champion Marc Simborio and Capt. Melvin Duay on its roster playing Boards 1, 2 and 3, respectively, team  Maravril enterprises tallied 16.0 game points to pocket P7,000 and a trophy as awarded by tournament director Jake Espinosa in the one day rapid event hosted by Cayetano "Jun" R. Santos Jr. much known Chess God Father in San Mateo, Rizal.

They edged team Chinito having the cast of Jan Roldan Oriendo, Mario "Tisoy" Patriarca and OFW Reagan Casil which finished second with 15.5 game points. Team Chinito brought home a runner-up trophy and P4,000.

Mr. Gold's Chess Team bannered by Patcheco Yngayo, Thailand chess king Alvin Roma and David Enrique finished third with 14.0 game points. They received P2,500 plus third-place trophy.

At fourth place is team Sureball which is composed of Rommel Lucion, Jamie Criste and Willie Jade Nicdao tallied 13.5 game points.

 Tied for fifth to sixth placers after tallying identical 13.0 game points are Tinador's Counter Gambit (Alvin Ping, Sean Andrew Olan and Teorwin "Tondo blitz chess king" Talapian), Congreso Team (OFW Bernard Catalan, John Fajardo and Joveniano Congreso)

Individual honors went to National Master Julius Sinangote (Maravril )-Board 1 , Thailand chess king Alvin Roma (Mr. Gold's Chess Team )-Board 2 and JRS bet Aaron Domingo (Team ni Kuya JV)-Board 3.

According to Santos the said event aims to provide an avenue for aspiring athletes to improve and develop their skills and talents with the theme "No to drugs, Yes to chess".
