IAN CRIS UDANI reinforced his position as one of the Philippines’ top chess players when he ruled the Kejohanan Catur Piala YDP MPS Seremban Chess Open 2017 last July 30, 2017 in Seremban, Malaysia.
Udani, a former top player of University of St. La Salle - Bacolod defeated Malaysian Kumar Reddy Poluri Bharat in the final round to score perfect 7.0 points in seven outings to bag the top prize worth 1,000 Malaysian Ringgit.
The Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia based Udani, who work as a chess teacher here also beat Ahmad Aswadi Ali Hassan and Rajan Shakti Muzzaffar Ahmad of Malaysia, compatriot Michael Angelo Palma, Foo Chee Kin and Jianwen Wong of Malaysia, in oder.
Palma, whose only setback to Udani in the fourth round, won his last three round assignment including big wins against countryman National Master (NM) Stewart Manaog in the final round to settled solo second place with 6.0 points.
The Cabuyao, Laguna pride Palma, a senior engineer here in Selangor, Malaysia, is an ex-varsity player of Mapúa Institute of Technology in the 90's. (end it)
