Arnel Beltran Del Rosario, chairman/ president of Del Rosario Christian Institute Foundation Inc. congratulated a nine-year-old General Trias chess wizards for bringing honor to the school and to the country in the field of sports.

The girl, Bonjoure Fille Suyamin, a grade 4 pupil of Del Rosario Christian Institute in General Trias City, Cavite, won three silver medal in the girls under 10 division of the 9-day 20th ASEAN Age Group Chess Championships 2019.

International Master Ricky De Guzman reigned supreme in the Open Kitchen Chess Tournament held at the Open Kitchen P. Tuazon Boulevard, Barangay Kaunlaran in Cubao, Quezon City late Tuesday.

The former Asian Junior champion De Guzman collected 4 points to win the 5 Round Tournament hosted by New York Chess League top honcho/boss Nonoy Rafael in close cooperation with China Aurelio, John Gomez and Popo Martinez of Open Kitchen and Jeff Dimalanta.

National Master Cesar Caturla won the first gold medal for the Philippines in the 20th Asean + Age Group Chess Championships 2019 at the Golden Mandalay Hotel and Hotel Hazel in Mandalay City, Myanmar on Saturday.

Caturla, a member of the Philippine Chess Team in the 22nd Chess Olympiad, held in Haifa, Israel in 1976 was undefeated in eight games, good enough to secure the top honors in the Senior 65 years old and above of the Standard Nine Round Swiss Tournament.

GRANDMASTER Rogelio "Joey" Antonio Jr. downed Fide Master David Elorta,4-3, to win their match-up in the Rapid Chess Face Off on Saturday at the third floor League One Southgate Mall (formerly Alphaland Southgate Mall), near MRT Magallanes Station, Edsa, Makati City.

Actually the 13-times national open champion Antonio took a 3.5-0.5 commanding lead before Elorta rally and close the gap at 3-5-2.5. Antonio held Elorta into a fighting draw to win the match at 4-3 count.

The grade 4 pupil of Faith Christian School in Cainta, Rizal was beaten by Candidate Master Pham Tran Gia Phuc of Vietnam in Round 6 in the Under-10 Boys' open division on Thursday.With the setback, Al-Basher remains at 3.5 points, two points behind with sole leader Nguyen Thai Son of Vietnam.
