After have witnessed a couple of horrendous robberies at the summer Olympics, now we the fight fans, will get ready to continue our boxing year. With at least three bouts worth of attention on this month, because one of those could be able to challenge the Francisco Vargas versus Orlando Salido fight of the year award.

No, I am not talking about the most hyped, nor the most publicized by major media, even less I am referring of two upcoming bouts that have the potential to end with the knockout of the year award, due that those are also in contention for the mismatch of the year.

Maybe this is the right time for the Gennady Golovkin and Canelo Alvarez loyal fans to skip the article, I will leave to the major media to hype their upcoming mismatches, because I refuse to praise any fighter who avoids real challenges making all kind of excuses to do so and instead hand picks tailor made opponents.

I think that the Anthony Crolla vs. Jorge Linares can deliver a fight of the year performance. For Linares this is a make or break fight and perhaps his last shot at a title so I can´t see him quitting. For the defending WBA lightweight title Crolla, this is a fight he simply cannot allow himself to lose.

The Roman Gonzalez vs. Carlos Cuadras bout has all the ingredients to deliver a really good fight. But will they be able to get to the next level as a fight of the year? I believe so. Chocolatito tries to become the first Nicaraguan boxer to win a fourth divisional world title held by Carlos Cuadras, the reigning World Boxing Council super flyweight champion. As for Cuadras, he has the chance to make a huge impact in the eyes of fight fans if he defeats the number 1 pound for pound boxer in the world.

The fight that I expect to deliver an epic battle is the Krzysztof Glowacki vs. Oleksandr Usyk when they dispute the World Boxing Organization cruiserweight title. After the seen the way Glowacki behaved when he defeated Marco Huck to win the title and have reviewed Usyk fighting style, I think that this one has a solid chance to steal the fight of the year award from the leading candidate Vargas and Salido bout.
