Former 2 division world champion Carl Frampton (23-1, 14 KOs) has split with his longtime manager Barry McGuigan, and his company Cyclone Promotions. It’s unclear what caused the 30-year-old Northern Ireland native Frampton to sever ties with McGuigan.

Frampton lost his last fight to Leo Santa Cruz on January 28 of this year in getting beaten by a 12 round majority decision. In Frampton’s fight before that, he won a controversial 1 round majority decision over Santa Cruz on July 30 last year in New York.

This Saturday night on August 26 at the StubHub Center, Carson, California, the newly crowned WBC super-bantam belt holder Rey Vargas will make his first defense against Ronny Rios. Last February, Rey won his title against Gavin McDowell showing good skills and ring smarts to control the fight in which he even made remember Ricardo Finito Lopez.

THE Philippines is still waiting for its next gold medal in the 29th Southeast Asian Games in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, after Sunday went past with the country sans any top hardware to show for.

Prized wushu artist Daniel Parantac and young archer Nicole Tagle had chances to claim gold medals but were not able to take advantage of the opportunities they had.

Super bantamweight champion Guillermo Rigondeux will need to climb 2 divisions to fight WBO super featherweight title holder Vasyl “Hi-Tech” Lomachenko (9-1, 7 KOs) at 130 if the fight is going to get made for December 9.

The fight still isn’t signed as of yet. If the fight goes get made, the two fighters will be facing each other at Madison Square Garden in New York.

IBF/WBA/WBO light heavyweight champion Andre “SOG” Ward doesn’t rule out a fight in the future against IBF/WBA heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua , who he rates as definitely beatable as anyone when the time comes for them to face each other. Ward (32-0, 16 KOs) just finished knocking out former 175 lb. champion Sergey “Krusher” Kovalev in the 8th round on June 17 in their rematch in Las Vegas, Nevada.

I have never been a fan of Floyd Mayweather’s, and my dislike for his villainous, vainglorious persona has, for years, fueled my desire to see him knocked out. As Muhammad Ali said early on in his career, “100% will be comin’ to see me, but 99% will be comin’ to see me get beat.” So, I am the sucker that the Mayweather character provoked; I was who he got rich off of. But for all of my ire and animus, despite how I felt about him as a person, his competency inside the ring was unparalleled. He just so happens to be the greatest boxer of my generation, and the greatest defensive fighter of all time.

Floyd Mayweather Sr. says he will personally sue Conor McGregor if he chooses to fight dirty and foul Floyd Mayweather Jr. in their fight on August 26. There’s a lot of speculation about whether McGregor will elect to use his MMA skills to knockout or incapacitate Mayweather Jr. in their fight.

Some boxing and MMA fans think McGregor could gain a lot of respect if he were to lose the fight by a disqualification by using one of his UFC fighting techniques to hurt Mayweather. Floyd Sr. says he will not stand for that. He’ll launch a lawsuit on his son’s behalf against McGregor.

Conor McGregor says he’s trained hard to adapt from the 5 round UFC fights to be ready to fight Floyd Mayweather Jr. for 12 hard rounds on August 26. McGregor says Mayweather is hoping that he’ll wear down in the fight as the rounds go by, but he doesn’t plan on letting that happen.

McGregor, 29, it’s going to be the 40-year-old Mayweather (49-0, 26 KOs) who winds up fatiguing from the fast pace that he’s going to be setting for him in their fight on Showtime pay-per-view at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Light welterweight champion Terence Crawford fights Julius Indongo on Saturday night in front of what is expected to be a sellout crowd of 10,000 fans at the Pinnacle Bank Arena in Lincoln, Nebraska.

Crawford, 29, is from nearby Omaha, Nebraska, hence that’s the main reason for him to be fighting in that state instead of the more traditional big fight locations like Las Vegas, Nevada, California and New York. Crawford is able to draw in Nebraska, but he has a lot of work to do before he can pull in boxing fans outside of his home state.
