Up until two months ago, it was thought that boxing discussions this week would center around Gennady Golovkin and Canelo Alvarez, depending on the outcome of their fight that was to be held last weekend. Was a clear winner determined? Was there a beatdown, mentally or physically, that would require time for the loser to recover? More importantly to the fans, and just as intriguing, would be what would be what would be next for both.

New York City (May 10, 2018) — The fight the boxing world has been waiting for — Jorge Linares defending the WBA and Ring Magazine lightweight titles against former two-division kingpin Vasiliy Lomachenko at Madison Square Garden — is only two days away.

Lomachenko and Linares, along with many of the undercard fighters, met the media one last time on Thursday.

FORMER General Santos City native Nonito Donaire Sr. was tapped to lend his expertise and beef up Manny Pacquiao’s think-tank in preparation for the Filipino’s title bid against Lucas Matthysse on July 15 at the Axiata Arena in Malaysia.

A week after opening training camp, Pacquiao added Donaire to help out in plotting tactical plans against Matthysse, the reigning WBA welterweight champion from Argentina.

Max Kellerman of HBO dissected middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (38-0-1, 34 KOs) following his 2nd round knockout win over Vanes Martirosyan (36-4-1, 21 KOs) last Saturday night, and he came to the conclusion that he fights much differently against weaker opposition than he does when he fights the more talented guys like Daniel Jacobs and Saul Canelo Alvarez.

It looks like the fight between WBC light welterweight champion Jose Ramirez (22-0, 16 KOs) and interim WBC 140lb champion Regis Prograis (21-0, 18 KOs) is dead in the water after Monday’s purse bid was called off without a new date for the rescheduling. Ramirez’s promoters at Top Rank aren’t eager to make the fight with the highly talented unbeaten Prograis right now, according to Dan Rafael.
