EL PASO, Texas (Nov. 1, 2018) – WBC super featherweight champion Miguel Berchelt and challenger Miguel "Mickey" Roman stood nose to nose, two days away from what is expected to be a phone booth battle at the Don Haskins Center in El Paso, Texas (ESPN+, 9:30 p.m. ET).

Berchelt (34-1, 30 KOs) is the 26-year-old champion looking to make the fourth defense of his world title. Roman (60-12, 47 KOs) is the 32-year-old veteran from Juarez, Mexico, making his third attempt at a world title.

Gennady Golovkin (38-1-1, 34 KOs) will be back inside the ring in the first quarter of 2019 against possibly WBA ‘regular’ middleweight champion Rob Brant (24-1, 16 KOs), according to GGG’s trainer Abel Sanchez. He says Golovkin has four titles he can go after, and he feels that the 28-year-old Brant is an interesting match for him.

Brant is a good fight for GGG to fight in early 2019. It could be a tough fight if Golovkin doesn’t stand his ground against Brant. GGG can’t afford to back up against Brant the way he did with Canelo last September.

It’s official that Jarrett Hurd (22-0, 15 KOs) will be returning to the ring on December 1 to face Jason Welborn (24-6,7 KOs) on the undercard of Deontay wilder vs. Tyson fury on Showtime pay-per-view at the Staples Center in Los Angles, California.

Gennady Golovkin’s promoter Tom Loeffler is negotiating a deal for him to sign with DAZN, according to RingTV. Loeffler says Golovkin could be back in the ring in March or April, but it won’t be against Saul Canelo Alvarez. Loeffler wants to set-up a trilogy fight for Golovkin with the Mexican star, but he doubts that’ll happen next May. If Golovkin signs with DAZN, then his next bout will be on the streaming network.

Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez (50-1-2, 34 KOs) will be moving up to 168 lb in his next fight to try and earn his third division world title against WBA ‘regular’ super middleweight champion Rocky Fielding (27-1, 15 KOs) on December 15.

If Canelo does fight for a world title at 175 in the future, he would gain a lot more respect from the boxing fans if he chose to take on the perceived best in the light heavyweight division. Canelo certainly isn’t taking on the best in moving up to 168 to challenge Fielding, 31, for his WBA title. That’s a weak move on Canelo’s part. Fielding was knocked out in the 1st round by Callum Smith in 2015.

Daniel Jacobs (35-2, 29 KOs) just barely edged previously unbeaten #1 IBF Sergiy Derevyanchenko (12-1, 10 KOs) by a 12 round split decision to capture the vacant International Boxing Federation middleweight title on Saturday night on HBO at Madison Square Garden in New York.

Chris Algieri is confident that Daniel Jacobs will defeat the dangerous Sergiy Derevyanchenko on Saturday night in their fight for the vacant IBF middleweight title on HBO World Championship Boxing at Madison Square Garden in New York.
