ENGINEER Vergel Recaido, DMC Entertainment and Production management boss Jesse Gonzales Cambosa Sr., and Blogger Leslie “Anitokid” Mapugay got off to a blazing start by posting victories in the opening round of the 7th annual J&P 10-Ball Cup Championships late Friday (October 19, 2018) at the Superbowl Makati Cinema Square in Makati City.
Recaido, president of the Copper Electronics Expertise, Inc., defeated Momer Meteoro, 7-4, while Gonzales Cambosa Sr., the newly-installed director of the Billiards Sports Confederation of the Philippines (BSCP) under the leadership of it’s president Aristeo “Putch” Puyat, edged Audio engineer Lei Padlan, 7-6, and Mapugay, the world-renowed blogger alias Anitokid won by default against Dodi Gadia.
“The first round is one of the toughest rounds in any tournament. It usually sets the tone of how you’re going to perform,” said the defending champion Recaido, who beat Tristan Aguas, 7-4, in the finals of the last year’s edition.
Dean Dayuday, Bok Ungria and Jonji Borja also opened with wins.
Dayuday subdued Kaye Padlan, 6-4, Ungria outclassed Ea Bernalez, 6-2, and Borja nipped John Billones, 6-4.
No less than World Champion Rubilen Amit and Esteban Robles of Bitchip Crypto Currency made the ceremonial lag during the colorful opening ceremony in the event backed up by Puyat Sports and MAPPA (Makati Pool Players Association) which attracted 161 pool players.
According to league official Allan Soliman,the 10-ball event offers P40,000 and a trophy to the champion, the second placer bagging P20,000 while the third placer will get P10,000. Fourth to 8th place will receive P5,000 each, and 9th to 16th placers will pocketed P1,000 each.
