After a successful three-game road trip, the Celtics returned home to face Luka Doncic and the Dallas Mavericks. Jaylen Brown and Marcus Smart were tasked with slowing down the enigmatic second year player. Doncic has been tracking toward the MVP conversation this season averaging a near triple double and the Cs did a good job on him early as Boston held Dallas to just 21 on 26% shooting in the opening quarter. The Celtics would score 25 as they looked to hold back the free flowing Mavericks who rank sixth highest scoring team in the NBA at 116.3 points per game.

The Milwaukee Bucks snuck by the Oklahoma City Thunder, winning 121 to 119.

Possibly due to their length road trip, Milwaukee struggled early. They fired blanks from deep, whiffed on bunnies, but in Bucks fashion, managed to stick beside the Thunder through the first quarter. The two teams would jockey for a lead to start the second, Milwaukee tightening up their three-point attack despite their offensive flow remaining rather JV-ish. Their defense hurt them the most, as they fell behind 56-50 at half, failing to stop a red-hot Thunder bench.

The Milwaukee Bucks sidestepped a red-hot Minnesota Timberwolves team Monday night, winning 134 to 106.

Minnesota was without Karl-Anthony Towns tonight — but it may not have mattered after Eric Bledsoe’s All-Star first-quarter. The guard scored 11 points in the first 12 minutes, the spark of least anticipation as Milwaukee worked up slight edge early. Minnesota stuck close by, partially due to their unprecedented synergy this season and partially due to uninspired defense from Milwaukee, particularly in transition.

The Los Angeles Lakers have already shown they can win with historic efforts from their two stars. But more critically for a team that fancies itself a real contender, on Sunday L.A. showed it can win with contributions from the team’s role players as well, with a few of their less-heralded contributors helping the Lakers escape San Antonio with a 103-96 win over the Spurs.

It’s the sixth game of the season and we’re taking it entirely too seriously. That being said, this first matchup between the Milwaukee Bucks and the Toronto Raptors since...you know...was pretty important for Milwaukee.

The Bucks were rolling in the first half, slicing to the rim at will and seeing their three-pointers falling. In the second half, Nick Nurse deployed a zone defense that stymied the Bucks’ offensive dynamism, and a barrage of Lowry threes closed the gap going into the fourth quarter. The Bucks’ defense held firm, and Milwaukee improved to 4-2 on the season.
