Renzo Subido made sure that he will still don University of Santo Tomas’ colors until the end. Subido knocked down the booming triple that brought University of Santo Tomas the victory in their do-or-die against University of the Philippines on Wednesday.

Subido fired 14 points on 4-of-9 shooting from deep, on top of three rebounds, two assists, and two steals as the Growling Tigers held through despite shooting 7-of-39 from beyond the arc, a measly 18-percent clip. The Tigers were down 65-63 when Rhenz Abando threw the inbound to Subido. The 5-foot-7 guard drained the go-ahead triple over Bright Akhuetie with 23.6 seconds remaining that pushed the Growling Tigers ahead, 66–65 to book ticket to the Finals.

“Coach Aldin is a great coach. I also had good coaches, but coach Aldin is the only one who I think gave me the chance to showcase my skills. Not only me. He gives everyone the chance to play their game,” he said.

When asked about the difference in UST’s culture between Ayo’s regime and his past coaches, Subido talked about equality within the ranks.

“I think it’s more of everyone having equal chances. I appreciate coach Aldin because he gives everyone an equal chance, even if you’re a veteran or rookie. For him, he sees everyone as equal.”

“We don’t look at the results yet. For us, we just want to play our best every game. We want to play hard every game and we just want to compete,” said Subido.
