CHALK up another championship for Diliman College.
With Kevine Gandjeto asserting  himself on both ends of the floor, Diliman blasted former NCAA champion  Letran College, 103-86, to capture the title in the 16th Fr. Martin Cup  basketball tournament at the San Beda gym in Mendiola.

Gandjeto, as expected, provided the big difference.

The 6-6 Gandjeto finished with 20 points for the Blue Dragons, who completed a historic 10-game sweep that included an inspiring 91-71 triumph over San Beda University in the semis.

Three other.players --JM Salazar,  Aevin Coquia and Robbue Darang -- provided ample scoring support.

Salazar and Coquia added 15 points apiece and  Darang contributed 14 points for the Quezon City-based team.

“Thank God, we did it again,” said  the multi-titled Diliman College coach Rensy Bajar,  architect of Diliman’s meteoric rise in the collegiate basketball scene.

“Beating San Beda in the semis and Letran in the final and winning the championship is a big achievement for the team,” added Bajar, who also serves as first assistant coach of PBA legend Pido  Jarencio in the NorthPort Batang Pier in the PBA.

Bajar, who played for Shell in the PBA before turning his sights into coaching, said the victory is a product of hard work and preparation of the team.

“But the all-out support of Diliman College president and former Sen. Nikki Coseteng and Jerome Ngo and Wilson Sia of Gerry’s Grill provided the inspiration for the players to work harder,”  stressed Bajar

Aside from the Fr. Martin Cup,  Diliman College is also  bidding to win the championship in the UCBL Season 3 tournament..

The Dragons hold a league-best 8-1 win-loss record.
