Aaron Black, son of one of the greatest coaches in the history of Philippine basketball, figured in a controversial play in Game 1 of the highly anticipated UAAP basketball championship.

“Not a block on Black. More like a foul. The POG got away because a foul can’t be called,” said Ateneo alumnus Madz Mercado from Vancouver, Canada. 

 The referee did not call a foul when Green Archers’ Jeron Teng 

“An obvious no call. But that’s okay; the archers played great. We will try to get the win tonight,” said the humble Aaron, son of third winningest coach Norman Black who led the Ateneo to five consecutive UAAP championships and now coaches the Meralco Bolts.

Ateneo coaching consultant Tab Baldwin believes there should have been a foul on that play. Coach Tab sees the 6-footer Aaron as the UAAP’s Stephen Curry. The 18-year-old was last season’s fourth best scorer for the Blue Eaglets with an average of 9.4 points, 6.2 rebounds, and 1.6 assists per game.
