National University started its quest to reclaim the men's table tennis championship, dropping only a match to join defending champion University of Santo Tomas and University of the East at the top of the UAAP Season 82 standings Saturday at the Blue Eagle Gym in Quezon City.
Transferee Francis Bendebel steered the Bulldogs to the 2-0 win-loss record after taking down both of his opponents in the morning and afternoon sessions. The former Adamson Soaring Falcon snagged one against his former school at 3-0 over Isaac Eneria, before winning against CJ Victorio of University of the Philippines at 3-1.
NU eventually took wins against Adamson and UP at 3-1 and 3-0, respectively.
UST and UE likewise share the top of the leader board with their 2-0 win-loss record.
The Tiger Paddlers swept Far Eastern University in the morning, then had to deny De La Salle University the upset with 3-2 win. Reymark Mabuang took down Marwin Eder in the deciding singles match, 3-1, for the second tie win for UST.
For their part, UE stopped both La Salle and FEU in five matches to remain unscathed.
Ateneo and Adamson split their assignments to finish at 1-1 for the day. The Blue Eagles swept the Fighting Maroons for their lone win, while the Soaring Falcons took theirs against the former.PR
