    by Marlon Bernardino THE staging for the 2nd Torrevillas Knights Cup Open Rapid and Kiddies chess tournament gets underway on August 21 at the Samar College in Catbalogan City, Samar. The one-day tournament is being held in celebration of the Feast of Saint Bartholomew 2019, backed up by Torrevillas Knights in cooperation with the Catbalogan City Chess Club and the Hermano Mayor of the Feast of Saint Bartholomew 2019. According to tournament manager Atty. Manuelindo Josef A. Torrevillas, the one-day National Chess Federation of the Philippines sanctioned tournament is a eight to nine round Swiss System format (Depending on the number of participants) applying 20 minutes with 5 seconds delay per player to finish the game. The champion will take home P50,000 plus trophy, the second placer will pocket P30,000 plus trophy, the third placer will earn P20,000 plus trophy while fourth to eight will receive P15,000, P12,000, P8,000, P6,000 and P5,000, respectively plus medals and ninth to tenth will get P3,000 each plus medals. 11th to 20th place will get P2,000 each plus medals while 21st to 25th place will receive P1,000 each plus medals. Special prizes for the top Non-Master and Top Lady will also likewise to receive P5,000 each plus medals. In the Kiddies - 12 Years Old and Below (Must still be 12 years old on August 21, 2019), the Champion will receive P12,000 + Trophy, 2nd Place – P7,000 + Trophy , 3rd Place P5,000.00 + Trophy, 4th Place – P3,000 + Medal, 5th Place – P2,500 + Medal, 6th -10th Place – P1,000.00 + Medal and 11th -15th Place – P750 + Medals each.
