Red Bull DIY Continues to Give Back to Filipino Skate Communities

MANILA, Philippines – This past August, Red Bull DIY has started to work with skateboarding communities across the country – supporting the development of their dream skate spots and giving a platform to showcase their talents and DIY creativity.

Helping Skate Communities Develop Their Dream Skate Spots

17 skate shops and crews were selected from various cities across Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao from the many entries submitted. These selected teams were provided with initial resources to begin construction on setups based on their entries. The Top 5 teams were chosen by Margielyn Didal, with the final placements ranked by 2017 Thrasher Magazine Skater of the Year, Jamie Foy, on this video.

     · 1st Place: Regfy Skate Shop from Mandaue, Visayas

    · 2nd Place: Taga Baler SC from Baler, Luzon

    · 3rd Place: Quilla Skate Shop from Metro Manila, Luzon

    · 4th Place: STRAP from Cebu City, Visayas

    · 5th Place: Kidaskate from Kidapawan, Mindanao

These Top 5 teams were then awarded with additional funding to further realize the potential of their DIY spots.

Red Bull DIY’s commitment towards supporting the Filipino skateboarding community has extended to Asia and 2X SEA Games Gold Medalist and Olympic hopeful, Margielyn Didal, with the construction and development of her own personal skatepark facility in collaboration with Cebu’s Soul Sierra.

Up next, Red Bull DIY will be launching their “Solo Competition” - open to all skaters in order to further support the DIY skate spots developed nationwide.

“Iniimbitahan ko lahat ng skaters na mag register sa darating na Red Bull DIY Solo Competition ngayong Oktubre. Stay tuned on my social media accounts for more updates,” says Margielyn Didal. “Excited to see all your videos!”
